During the December 10, 2017 8th grade basketball game, fate took a turn. It was as if a new force took over the team, and it lead them to victory.

The first snow of the season had just fallen the day before, the ground was clean and white as a crystal. It had been a week since the unfortunate defeat by St. Joe’s. This week, the 8th grade Hawks faced off against St. Rocco. St. Rocco had more moral support, as did the previous team. Moreover, St. Rocco had a cheering section. Never the less, the Hawks still triumphed, especially with a new member who was absent from the last game, Brandyn Durand. He helped turn the team’s score around.

The Hawks started and stayed strong for the entire game. They were able to score the points, and kept that lead for the first section of the first period. By the end of the first section of the first period, the Hawks were ahead 11-1. By the end of the second section of the first period, the Hawks were ahead once again 14-7. By the end of the third section of the first period, the Hawks were ahead 24-10. Although they didn’t score any points this section, at the end of the fourth, and last section, of the first period, the Hawks were ahead 24-15. After a quick three-and-a-half-minute intermission, the game continued as before. At the end of the second fourteen-minute period, the Hawks won with a score of 47-23.

The team vastly improved since their last game, and I hope the team continues on this trend. The 8th grade sport teams have been doing well so far this school year, and I can only imagine how well the 8th grade will perform in spring volleyball.
